Is 0.75 the same as 3/4? Yes, and this calculator shows how. It converts a decimal to a fraction in its simplest form, or a fraction to a decimal and a percentage.

How to use it

  1. Choose decimal to fraction or fraction to decimal.
  2. Enter the decimal, or the numerator and denominator.

Method

Decimal to fraction: write the digits over 10, 100, 1000 … (one zero per decimal place), then simplify
    0.75 = 75/100 = 3/4       (divide top and bottom by 25)
Fraction to decimal: divide the numerator by the denominator
    3/4 = 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75 = 75%

Examples

  • 0.75 = 75/100 = 3/4
  • 0.2 = 2/10 = 1/5
  • 1.25 = 125/100 = 5/4 (1 1/4)
  • 1/3 = 0.3333… (the 3 repeats forever) = 33.33%

FAQ

Why does 0.333 not give 1/3?

0.333 means exactly 333/1000. The fraction 1/3 is 0.3333… with the 3 repeating forever, which a finite decimal can't show exactly.

Which fractions give repeating decimals?

In simplest form, a fraction ends (terminates) only if its denominator has no prime factors other than 2 and 5. So 1/4 and 3/20 end, while 1/3, 1/6 and 2/7 repeat.

How do I turn a decimal into a percentage?

Multiply by 100. 0.75 × 100 = 75%.
