How to use the time duration calculator
- Enter the start time and end time.
- Enter any break to subtract, such as a 30-minute lunch.
If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator treats it as the next day, which is right for night shifts.
Formula
Duration = end time − start time (add 24 hours if the end is on the next day)
Time worked = duration − break
Decimal hours = minutes ÷ 60Example
From 09:30 to 18:15 with a 30-minute break:
- Total: 8 hours 45 minutes
- After the break: 8 hours 15 minutes
- In decimal: 8.25 hours, or 495 minutes
A night shift from 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours.
